Types of Window Shutter Materials

May 25, 2016

Window shutters are absolutely stunning from the outside and inside of your home. They create an instant irresistible appeal with their decorative and functional qualities. If you want to have them installed on your company’s windows, residential home or business facility, you should have as much knowledge possible in order to get the best value and aesthetically pleasing shutters. Window shutters are made from a wide range of materials, which determine their quality and durability.

Basswood – this is a common North American product, suitable for diverse weather conditions, from hot summers to cold winters. While nature enthusiasts prefer to have them treated and installed, it is possible to have the window shutters painted or stained. The secret is to just make sure that the basswood source is mature and dry enough.

Polyurethane – This is an ideal shutter for areas prone to moisture and humidity. It is highly effective when installed in kitchens and bathrooms. The material can be easily cleaned without the risk of warping. If you have children playing around your house, this would be a great material to choose.

Basswood/MDF composite – This composite provides added strength to the window shutters increasing its weather resistance and durability. It is a type of shutter than cannot get wet. The only disadvantage is that it cannot be used in large window spans because of bowing. It is however possible to get around that by using additional panels. Their durability can also be interfered with by activities that cause impact as well as long exposure to direct sunlight.

Can you use two different materials in the same house?

Yes. It all about the functionality. You can fix basswood shutters in the living room and poly shutters in the kitchen. Different rooms in your house have different needs and you have to be adviced by a professional whether or not the option may not  be very effective. The Original California Shutters can have your shutters customized to fit your needs
