Window Shutters To Keep You Warm Even If The Spring Time Isn’t

June 20, 2018

Bright openings to the world they may be, but windows without window shutters are conspiring to increase your energy bills all year round. Letting the cold in when you want to be warm and keeping the heat in when you’d rather be cool, windows definitely add to the strain your heating and air conditioning systems are under.

Window Shutters Are a Great Way to Mitigate Temperature Losses and Increase the Effectiveness of Your Heating and Cooling Systems.

Here are a few ways in which window shutters help you reduce temperature losses caused by your windows and save on your energy bills.

  • Locking in warmth – Window shutters are a straightforward barrier between the window and your home. Depending on their configuration, shutters can very effectively create a curtain of air between themselves and the window, which reduces heat losses to the outside.

  • Insulation – Window shutters made of wood are a great material for insulating against the cold too. Thicker than curtains and blinds, they supplement windows in keeping the cold out. Window shutters also have thermal mass, so, once heated, they will help retain temperature in the room longer.

  • Keeping the sun out – During the summer months when you want to keep the house cool and comfortable, simply opening the window is not enough as the sun will still beam in through the window. Furthermore, if you keep your windows closed, you essentially turn your home into a greenhouse. With window shutters cold air can be let in and sunlight can be blocked.
