Window shutters are one of the most premium window treatment options. However, there are plenty of window treatment choices to choose from, including curtains and blinds. One very specific type of blind is known as zebra blinds. What are zebra blinds and what are some of their features? In this blog, California Shutters, a leading designer of window shutters and window treatments in Toronto and the GTA, covers these questions in detail.
Zebra blinds are a type of dual blind system, with one being opaque and the other sheer. The opaque strips of the roller blind are alternated by the sheer ones. When one requires more light in the room, simply overlap the opaque strips, and when the room needs to be dark, the opaque strips are spaced apart to ensure privacy.
The zebra blinds work like any roller blinds, but the exception is that, unlike their roller counterparts, it is a single loop of fabric originating from the bottom bar. As already mentioned, the strips can be overlapped or spread out for better light control. Lastly, the blinds can be rolled up all the way to ensure an abundance of light in the room.
Typically, zebra blinds are made of Polyethersulfone (PES) and cotton. PES is a form of high-quality polymer that is known for its durability and strength. Moreover, PES is non-toxic and flame-resistant, making it the perfect material for zebra blinds.
Since blinds are primarily an interior window treatment option, they don’t add much aesthetic appeal to the exterior. To counter this, homeowners can pair zebra blinds with wood window shutters or the same color.
